My Teaching Philosophy
by IDA TAN MEI-ERH AP060055 - Friday, 14 July 2006, 06:26 PM
In my opinion, teaching is a challeging job. My MUET teacher once told me this..." Do you know that, my parents used to say, if u dun study hard u will end up being a teacher!" is a funny statement but is true that there are people who think like that. I never thought teaching is easy or relax...eventhough some teachers maybe repeating the same syllabus every year but the most important thing is the way they teach the students & in a way or another, educate the students not only "physically" which preapre them for exams in school but also mentally where they help the students in their character building..
Teachers are important people in my life because their words & their actions give impacts on me..I strongly believe that if i am to become a successful teacher, i must understand my responsibilities as a teacher & love my job with no doubts..that's my philosophy of teaching...teaching is a forever-learning job...we doesn't stop when we got our degree or master, we still learn when we are experienced teachers for many many years...& that's why i say teaching is a challeging job..
Last but not least, i do hope that i can fulfil my philosophy of teaching where i never stop learning & try my best in everything i do to be a good teacher...

Before this, I always believe that the term "Philosophy" is a way of thinking which shape the mind of people from different fields & also a guideline for people to follow...For example, there are Philosophy of Education, which will be mainly followed by educators like teachers, Philosophy of Mathematics, Chinese Philosophy & so on so forth....
But only in today's Mr. Hamdan lesson, then i realised that Philosophy is not only just a "guideline"...is a field of study & also a passion towards something which it includes various kind of areas & thus leading to the formation of knowledge or wisdom & resulting in the action of people...
In addition, i would like to share something which i learned from the lesson today, which is, to be a teacher, we as future teachers-to-be should not only just teach...we should try our best to understand the philosophy of education where we will understand the purpose of teaching, enjoy the process of teaching, love our job of teaching & also try our best to be a good teacher where we put in efforts to understand the need of students...
In conclusion, philosophy is something new & interesting to me...& i look forward to understand more about the philosophy of education. I do sincerely hope that with these new knowledge, it can help me in my way of thinking & broaden my perspective of life. Last but not least, i also hope that through the learning of philosophy, i can understand myself better & do the best i can to fulfil my dream as a good & caring teacher in the future...

Teach My Grandson Teacher - Gently, If You Can
My grandson starts school today. It's going to be strange and new to him for a while, and I wish you would sort of treat him gently.
You see, up to now, he's been king of the roost -- he's been boss of the backyard. His mom, dad, and Grandma have always been around to repair his wounds, and soothe his feelings.
But now things are going to be different! This morning he's going to walk down the front steps, wave his hand, and start out on a great adventure... it's an adventure that might take him across the continent... it's an adventure that might include wars and strategy and sorrow.
To live his live in this world, will require faith and love and courage. So teacher, I pray you will take him by his young hand and teach him the things he will have to know.
Teach my grandson teacher -- but gently, if you can. He will have to learn, I know, that all men are not just, that all men are not true.
But teach him also, that for every scoundrel, there is a hero... that for every crooked politician, there is a dedicated leader. Teach him that for every enemy, there is a friend.
It will take time teacher, I know, but teach my grandson, if you can, that a nickel earned is far more value than a dollar found... teach him to learn to lose... and to enjoy winning.
Steer him away from envy, if you can, and teach him the secret of quiet laughter.
Let my grandson learn early that the bullies are the easiest people to lick... teach him, if you can, the wonder of books... but also give him quiet time to ponder the eternal mystery of birds in the sky, bees in the sun, and flowers on a green hill.
In school, teacher, teach him it is far more honorable to fail than to cheat... teach him to have faith in his own ideas, even if everyone tells him that he is wrong... teach him to be gentle with gentle people and tough with tough people.
Try to give my grandson strength not to follow the crowd when everyone else is getting on the bandwagon... teach him to listen to all men... but, teach him also to filter all he hears on a screen of truth and take only the good that comes through.
Teach my grandson teacher... but gently if you can, how to laugh when he is sad... teach him there is no shames in tears... teach him there can be glory in failure and despair in success.
Teach him to close his ears to a howling mob... and to stand and fight if he thinks he is right.
Teach him to scoff at cynics and to beware of too much sweetness... teach him to sell his brawn and brains to the highest bidders but, never, never, put a price tag on his heart and soul.
Treat my grandson gently, teacher, but don't coddle him, because only the test of fire makes fine steel... let him have the courage to be impatient... let him have the patience to be brave.
Teach him always to have sublime faith in himself. Because then he will have sublime faith in God and Mankind.
This is a tall order, teacher, but please help him if you can do. You see, he's such a nice little fellow... my grandson.
Teach my grandson, teacher... but gently if you can.

There was once a teacher
Whose principal feature
Was hidden in quite an odd way
Students by millions
Or possibly zillions
Surrounded him of all the day
When finally seen
By his scholarly dean
And asked how he managed the deed
He lifted three fingers
And said: “ All you swingers
Need only follow my lead.
To rise from zero
To big campus hero
To answer these questions you’ll strive
Where am I going,
How shall I get there, and
How’ll I know I’ve arrived?”

Question of the week:
Does fish Urinates??
· Mr Grumpy Fish urinates into some sort of desalinizing machine to get drinking water .
· The water clouds for a reason and those reasons are part of the way mother nature set the planet up.The fish urinates. The fish defecates. The fish breathes. All those things release ammonia into the water. The ammonia is toxic. I dont know if youve evr been in a chicken house but we have them all over the place here. I will not keel over dead from walking into one.I can promise you though.I do not want to be locked in one with no chance of escape.
· Therefore, the fish urinates alot and doesnt drink any water (it gets all the water it needs from the outside environment).
