Review of "The LAST LECTURE"

today is the last day before my students head off for their one week holiday as well as mine. will be going home by Airasia at late evening tomorrow.eased by the feeling of finally settle a week's of lesson plannings and testpapers reviews, i took Mr. Randy Pausch's Last lecture which was laid on my bedside and started reading from page 15 when i reached my room at around 5pm.

It was amazing.

reading through his work is like listening to him telling you stories about his life and his final days living to the fullest trying to settle his family and yet still thinking of his work. It was truly inspiring. Till just now...I managed to read up to page 153 and i cannot wait to blog about it!!!

i am reading the section of "It's About How to Live your Life" and i'm already half way through it. i think i want to save it for my time while waiting to board my flight or even during my flight back tomorrow.

His last lecture on "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams" really wowed(a word i learned from his book) me!As a child, Randy had some many great dreams and the most interesting part is how his dreams came true with all his hardwork and determination. He's a real-life dreamer and achiever!!!! I really appreciate his work and effort. He's truly an inspiration to others. He was so real and yet seem so unreal..haha..ironic~but as i know that he passed away just two weeks ago really sadden me and made me grieved at such loss.

I will continue to read it and you bet i will read it again and again for my favourite quotes and cliches he wrote and told.haha.great man!~

i like one of his Live your Life thingy which is to be the first Penguin...

"EXPERIENCE is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted"

He wanted to encourage students to attempt hard things and to not worry about failing and he wanted to reward that way of thinking. So he created a award by presenting a stuffed animal - a penguin to one team of student at the end of each semester. It was called "The first Penguin Award". This reminds me of Happy Feet when Mambo was the first penguin to "jump" into the great water on their graduation!!hahaha....for you who don't get it, "First Penguin" winners were losers who were definitely going somewhere. Isn't it cool to have such lecturer??again..another WOW! for Mr. Randy!!

so much to share but it sure will be different if u can read it yourself!! I'm doing it now!!! I didnt expect to get this much when i started to lay my hands on this book!! you guys should try it!!!is great!!

I'm bringing this book home for mummie!!!i'm sure she will be delighted too.

yeah~yeah~ i'm going home..again! cannot wait to hug mum and papa, sis and sis, grandpa and grandma...and of course my a-hem..haha...

HOME sweet HOME~

Happie Holidays everyone!!~=)

~*~Happy Engagement!!~*~
Congratulations!!

The engagement was announced on 10th August 2008 (Sunday). I went back to Kuching without telling my sis and gave her a big surprise!!~haha..i was so happy to see her and she was shocked to see me standing outside her room when she opened the door..haha...i hugged her and almost cried...i missed everyone so much...many things had happened but i thanked God for everything...He who blessed my family...

The engagement party was held at Hilton poolside. It was decorated with lovely purple and white ribbons..fresh white roses and a music band singing lovely oldies songs...it was a simple yet meaningful ceremony...Father Albert was invited to conduct the ceremony and blessed the couples...everything was so lovely...

I know that pictures speak the best but for now, i yet to get the pictures during the party..hehe..there were professional photographers taking the sweet moments and also cameraman...will post pictures later when i got them...

It was a different experience for me to see my younger sister engaged. I cannot stop smiling when they exchanged their rings...tears were filling my eyes.. i was even more emotional when Brayman suddenly kneeled and proposed to my sis!!!!! gosh!!it was so sudden and my tears cannot stop streaming down my cheeks!!It was like a fairy tale story..haha..of course my sis was so shocked (again!) and touched ..who wont be?? she said "yes" and eyes filled with tears of joys...Im so so happy for my sister and Brayman..my "future" brother-in-law!!!haha...i got a brother!!~thats really cool... I prayed that God will bless them and showered them with happiness in their life...May they always have faith and held on to each other to face everything that is coming to challenge them..As a sister, i felt really blessed with my sisters and family..thanks to mamie & papa too...haha..without them, i will never have the opportunity to feel the joy of having sisters in my life!!!~=)

so now, im back to Johor for my teaching practise...but will be back Kuching on Saturday!!!!haha..been catching plane twice in a week..well well, im really glad that i made it to my sis's engagement ceremony..how could i missed it??!!!~is my sister's engagement for heaven's sake!!!~hehe...for now,continue with my teaching in Sekolah Tun Fatimah and after Friday is bye bye Johor for a week and hello HOME!!~ miss home...=)

Passion for RED

Here I am, sitting in front of my lappy with two piles of testpapers to be marked. hehe..I just managed to finish marking for one of my class (28 girls) and calculated their marks for their paper 2 which contains 5 structured questions. One more class to go, 30 girls. The girls sat for their Science Form 1 yesterday. I got the marking scheme only today so after that i started straight away during school hour.=)

i want to share a student's answer with you guys...i think is the "answer of the year"! haha...the question sounds "How do you want to test the presence of oxygen in the air?"

guess what this student answered?

"I will use myself for this experiment. If oxygen is present, i will survive. If oxygen is not present, I will die"

=.=" i cannot stop laughing when i read it. im not laughing at her answer though, dont get me wrong, but her creativity and imagination are awesome!!~ haha...so cute..too bad there's no marks for creativity of answer..or else sure she will get a perfect score!~haha...aint her answer adorable? my teacher was saying that she will give the student two glass jars and ask her to test the presence of oxygen and let's see what will happen...haha...gosh!~guess this student must be sleeping due to "inadequate supply of oxygen" in class...haha...really made my day!!~

Look at my new red pen which i bought along with the blue one on Monday..haha..just imagine..i think i can finish a red pen in 4 days..not only testpapers to mark, but also science experiment reports and files to check. but i got to say this and im saying out loud, im really enjoying!!~the feeling of fulfillment keeps rushing into me...when i looked at the students' answers and their work, i mark with my heart...haha...gosh..im not yet a teacher lar!!~ but just that feeling...maybe everything is still new and fresh to me, that's maybe the reason which keeps me energetic in doing all the work but i really hope this feeling will stay with me and wont fade away!!~i like the feeling...hehe...im really happy that i choose to become a teacher...and i will work hard for it!~same goes to everyone...never let yourself down..must be dare to dream and take up the challenges..go for it!! experience your dream and work hard....you may find what you really want and the real you deep inside~=p

have a lovely nite friends! i gotta continue with my testpapers!~good nite!!~=)

Randy Pausch, author of "The Last Lecture" died
on 25 July 2008

The dying man who taught America how to live

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/randy-pausch-the-dying-man-who-taught-america-how-to-live-800182.html

This is the man who wrote the book "The Last Lecture", RANDY PAUSCH. He died last week, 25th July 2008 at the age of 47-years old. A Computer Science lecturer in Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was famous for his last lecture on 27 September 2007 which he delivered in his University.

He was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer in September 2006 and underwent an unsuccessful attempt to halt his cancer. He was told to expect a remaining of three to six months of good health in August 2007.

Pausch delivered his "Last Lecture" titled "Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams," at CMU on September 18, 2007.

I read about his speech during his "Last Lecture". It was so nice of Ms Raha, Head of Language Department of my school (STF) to share with me. Here are some to share with all:

"I don't know how to not have fun," Pausch tells his audience. "I'm dying and I'm having fun, and I'm going to keep having fun every day I've got left."

"Never lose the childlike wonder," he advises. "Show gratitude... Don't complain; just work harder... Never give up."

And this is the one that stays in my heart and i cannot stop thinking about it......

"If I were a painter, I would have painted for them.
If I were a musician, I would have composed music.
But I am a lecturer. So I lectured,"

I'm really sad to hear about his death. Even though i never meet this man, or even have the chance to know him, but what he said and delivered was tremendous. It was inspiring.

May God bless this good man's soul and his family. I hope you guys can also read up or even watch his video on his "Last Lecture". It was amazing.

May Mr. Randy Pausch rest in peace~
A Message by George Carlin
(he died recently, June 22, 2008)

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways but narrower pointviews.

We spend more but have less, we buy more but enjoy less. We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences but less time. We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge but less judgement, more experts yet more problems, more medicine but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom and hate too often.

We have learned how to make a living but not a life. We have added years to life but not life to years. We have been all the way to the moon and back but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbour. We conquered outer space but not inner space. We have done larger things but not better things.

We have cleaned up the air but polluted the soul. We have conquered the atom but not our prejudice. We write more but learn less. We plan more but accomplish less. We have learned to rush but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever but we communicate less and less.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships.
These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses but broken homes.
These are the days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill.
It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom.

Remember;
spend some time with your loved ones because they are not going to be around forever.

Remember;
say a kind word to someone who looks up to u in awe because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.

Remember;
to give a warm hug to the one next to you because that is the only treasure you can give with you heart and it doesnt cost a cent.

Remember;
to say 'I Love You' to your partner and your loved one but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.

Remember;
to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.

Give time to love, give time to speak! and give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.

And ALWAYS REMEMBER;

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take but by the moments that take our breath away.

i received this as an email from one of my friend..A message by Mr. George Carlin who is a comedian of the 70's and 80's..what he wrote was very eloquent and i admired him for that...the last sentence really meant a lot to me...Life should be like that...we should treasure every moment and count those moments that take our breath away~ just an article ought to share with you guys..is worth a share! Peace!~=)

B.E.A.U.tiful dAy

I woke up to a B.E.A.U.tiful Saturday morning.

My roomate went for a 2 days 1 night trip with her church members to Kukup, so i was room-aloned lastnite. but everything's fine. in fact, i was feeling very relax after a whole week of teaching and usual lesson-plans planning, i was enjoying my friday night with a good bath and reading articles in Reader's Digest.haha...spending a friday nite of my uni life on my bed with a book...hmmm...it sounds lame but hye, is my life here..peaceful and wonderful...plus, my bruises are yet to recover...so i better just get enough rest and don't try to move so much..is getting better though....but the bruises are UGLY~ gosh....=.="

some of you might had noticed..i changed my title image...hehe..this is a new one which i worked on it this morning...so from this...

to this...

and to this...

and finally..VuALLaLa...

haha...i might have to work on it for a lil bit...but so far, i think this is cool..just alright i guess...=)

I called up meiwah and asked her to accompany me to JB city to service my car...the car was making loud sounds from the back and the absorbers were loose...whenever i go over a bump, it will make funny sound too..so i took it back to the company and told Ms Ching (the person-in-charge) about it...so left them the car and both of us went to Holiday Plaza for our lunch~ we were so hungry!!! haha....

we decided to have our lunch at Wong Kok Restaurant which we saw when we were passing by Holiday Plaza...the weather was so hot in JB these few days!!!~ really giving me headaches...so we wanted to have our lunch in the restaurant which we thought is air-conditioned!~ but it turned out...yea, u guessed it right!~ no air-con was working....my gosh, it was so hot and stuffy inside...but what to do, we still want to eat~haha...

so there we are, sitting in a "oven", eating our lunch (i cant really use the word enjoy 'cause i was sweating~ though the food was nice and my Horlick drink comes with a super big cup!!haha..) i didn bring along my camera...so no pics available, just imagine...haha...

After lunch, we left as fast as we can to get into the Plaza so it not that suffering....it was cooler inside the building...we spent an hour walking around just to wait for my car...however, after that, we headed back to the company (which is located just few blocks away from the plaza) and hope that they had done with the servicing of my car.....

end up, we waited and waited....we waited for almost another 1 hour!!! the weather was killing us...haha..me and meiwah started to feel sleepy and drowzy due to the hot atmosphere....Ms ching is a nice lady...she was trying her best to contact her husband and check on my car...but they still need time as her husband, Mr Lim decided to service the entire car for me including changing the engine oil, changed the brake disc, the absorbers and the bearing (i guess)...is cool for me 'cause they showed their well service to the customer...so now my car "sounds" brand new...haha...no more loud noise hurting my ears and i can drive smoothly and comfortably..=)

another week had past and tomorrow is Sunday..I will be going to CIC (a catholic church in JB city) with one of my teacher from my school, Mdm Soh. She is such a nice lady and she reminds me of my Form 6 Biology teacher, Pn. Mary...hehe...Mdm. Soh also teach Biology and is one of the teacher of Excellence...she offered to bring me to the church and attend the morning mass...i gladly agreed and looking forward to it!~ i will meet her at school tomorrow morning and go by her car...so nice of her...so at least for tomorrow, i can attend a mass in a church...i cannot wait!=)

Next week will be the 4th week of my teaching practise and i had been back here for 5 weeks...how time flies!!~my school will be having their August Test next week, so i wont need to prepare lesson plans for a week...hehe.... but....there's always a 'but'...haha...i got to mark test papers!!~ i thought that was cool...feeling more like a real teacher...haha....i cant wait...i hope my girls will do their best and perform in this test...i wish them ALL the BEST!!

one of my dearest teacher once told me, " A teacher's prayer is one of the most POWERFUL prayer" and i believed that! hehe...Im looking forward to the weeks to come..and guessed what i am also looking forward to?..... school holidays!!!

yeah!!~school holidays start August 16th and i will be on my way HOME!!! i miss everyone and i miss home...hehe..i feel excited and happy just to think of going home soon...well, that will be two more weeks...so for the time being, i still need to concentrate on my teaching practise...hehe...stay focus!~I'll do my BEST!~

See you soon HOME!!~ i miss you...

everyone, have a lovely weekend~ take care and God bless..
